Impulse Nationals

SGYC were well represented with Matt, Toby, Geoff and Graeme contesting the National Impulse titles at Lake Albert, Meningie, South Australia. The invitation race scheduled for Saturday 31st Dec was postponed due to strong winds until the following morning. By the end of the first day, Matt was lying 3rd behind two strong competitors from NSW. The entire series was closely contested with Matt and Toby both winning races. Morning races were contested in lighter conditions compared to the afternoon ones when the stronger sea breeze kicked in.

Matt sailed consistently to be in top three overall after days 1 & 2 and was in 2nd place in race 6 when a gust caused him to capsize to finish in 13th place. This was to be significant as next day, despite finishing in first and second, Matt ended up finishing in second place overall by just a single point. Terribly disappointing for Matt to have been pipped by such a small margin, but a brilliant effort to have finished in second place against Australia’s best.

Toby, Ripper and Graeme all performed well in challenging conditions. Once more Team SGYC have stepped up and shown what a great result we can field.

The overall winner was Mark Skelton from NSW. For full results visit: https://www.revolutionise.com.au/impulsesailing/events/175361/&cat=1412&f=list
