Scouts Big Day Out

SGYC played host to 16 Scouts and 6 leaders from Narre Warren last weekend, introducing them to our beautiful inlet and the deceptive currents we all know so well! The group split into two, with one half kayaking and the other sailing in the morning and then swapping for the afternoon. A couple of the morning kayakers got caught up in the last of the outgoing tide on their paddle to Point Smythe and were taken on board the rescue boat before they made it over the bar, heading for Tasmania 🙂 . A favourite was the Corsair, able to carry up to 4 kids plus George who was seen relaxing in comfort whilst the kids steered and trimmed the sheets!

The activity day was part of the Scouts’ summer camp and everyone learnt new skills, ‘had a go’ and most importantly enjoyed themselves: as Matt Kiely noted, “it’s great to see so many smiling faces around the club”. We even had a surprise visit by a koala, another first for some of the kids.

The day would not have been possible without the input of club volunteers to assist, and a big thank you to Neil, Rob, Henry, Matt, Simon, George, Rohan and Wayne on water and to Susan and Rhonda making up the all important packed lunches, which went down a treat with the Scouts.
