Labour Day weekend

Yachtsman always like a challenge and the sailing over the 2016 Labour Day weekend was no exception! Overall 15 adult sailors and 5 Junior sailors competed in the Inverloch and District Community Bank Labour Day Series, with the Juniors vying for Derek’s Junior Encouragement Awards. Throughout the weekend, the sailors’ talents were matched with Anderson Inlet’s vagaries with record high tides and corresponding low tides. This aspect combined with light winds on Saturday and Sunday had the Race Officers scratching their heads as to what would be suitable courses for effective competition and compiling of results for the well sought after prizes. With the high tides came currents of around 6 to 7 knots with sailors trying their best with 5 to 10 knot breezes. However, on Monday that all changed. Finally everyone could breathe a sigh of relief as favourable 10 to 15 knot winds from the south west came in so the sailors were able to produce some magnificent sailing in good conditions. There were a few capsizes, however, everyone was able to enjoy the final day of the series.
