2015 Australia Day weekend update

The weekend is shaping up to be a very busy one with the normal Australia Day Series Races, the Gippsland Building Approvals Youth Races and the Inverloch Classic Wooden Dinghy Regatta being held as per the program.

In relation to the Classic Wooden Dinghy Regatta, Tom King OAM [Patron for the Regatta] and Olympic Gold Medallist at the 2000 Olympics will be sailing the SGYC Club Mirror “Lillian” with crew Oscar Perri in the Regatta races. Also George Fairlie’s partner Beck Banks has booked the SGYC Club Sabre for the Regatta races.
Also, in the Regatta Races, there could be opportunities to crew with Classic Wooden Dinghy Skippers. For example “Andrew Chapman has advised that John Fairfax would be bringing Frank Raisin’s 16 footer and needs a crew. He also needs a crew for the Skate including a skipper. John Fairfax is chasing boats that are around the Peninsula but he feels he might be short of manpower at Inverloch.

Tickets for the event featuring Tom King and the main speaker, Jessica Watson [Young Australian of the Year in 2011 and OAM in 2012] are selling steadily. It is a great opportunity for Yacht Club members and family and friends to hear them speak. It is very pleasing to see that the vast majority of entry tickets sold so far have come from the public. Yacht Club members still have the opportunity to buy tickets for the event during the day, or at the Inverloch Community Hub, on Saturday Night 24th January. There is a limit to the number of people that can fit into the Community Hub Hall.

Further the tickets for the Regatta Dinner at the Inverloch Bowling Club are selling rapidly with many of the tickets sold to non-Yacht Club members. There is a limit of 100 adults and 10 children for this event. Tickets are now being reserved for the Regatta registrants. Any Yacht Club member that has not purchased a ticket will be able to apply either on Saturday night or Sunday morning.
